Think about your practice with the “So What?” method today. What is one thing you understand about commentary now that you did not fully understand before? How will you apply it when writing your next AP Lang argument?

     I now understand that commentary should explain why my evidence matters and connect it back to my argument instead of just repeating the evidence. In my next AP Lang argument, I will use the “So What?” method to explain the significance of my evidence and make my reasoning clearer.


    In class today, we worked on writing commentary and practicing how to explain our evidence.


     This helped me understand how to go beyond simply providing evidence and explain how it supports my argument. I can use this when writing future essays to make my commentary more detailed and effective.

       A time when I tried to persuade someone to do something I wanted was when I tried to get my mother to purchase something for me. August 19th Prompt: How has living in or around Atlanta influenced the way you see your community, culture, or identity? If you were speaking to someone unfamiliar with Atlanta, what would you want them to understand about your community?

    Living around Atlanta has influenced me into seeing my community as more diverse and connected. Atlanta has many different cultures, backgrounds, and types of people, which has helped me understand and appreciate the differences between people.     In class Wednesday, we went in depth on breaking down a speech; looking at rhetorical appeal, rhetorical situation, and rhetorical choices. We talked about how rhetorical choice applies to specific situations, and how certain things are better to say than others depending on the audience. This helped me understand that effective communication is not just about what you say, but also how and why you say it. I can use this when analyzing speeches and when making my own arguments because I will be more aware of my audience and the choices I make.

August 24th Prompt: Describe something you will never fully understand.

       Something I will never understand is how time seems to move faster when I get older. I know time itself doesn't change, but it still feels like it moves faster as you get older. It is weird how years can pass without me realizing it.      In class, we learned how to break down prompts and identify exactly what the question is asking us to do. We practiced turning the prompt into a clear claim that directly answers the question.      This helped me understand how breaking down a prompt first can make it easier to develop a strong response.
