August 28th With 4.5-week grades posting on September 2, reflect on your experience in AP Language so far. What has been going well for you, what has been challenging, and what is one thing you need to improve moving forward?

     So far in AP Lang, I think I have been getting better as a writer by better understanding prompts and how to create claims. The most challenging part has been getting strong evidence for topics that I am not personally familiar with. Moving forward, I need to get better at choosing evidence and connecting it to my claim.

       In class, we were given a prompt asking whether there is such a thing as a “good kill,” and we wrote an introduction paragraph responding to it.  This helped me practice creating a clear claim and setting up an argument based on the prompt.

   I learned that having a clear position from the beginning makes it easier to build a strong argument throughout the rest of the writing.

       A time when I tried to persuade someone to do something I wanted was when I tried to get my mother to purchase something for me. I used ethos by reminding her that I had been responsible and productive throughout the week. I used pathos by explaining how the purchase would make me extremely excited and happy. August 19th Prompt: How has living in or around Atlanta influenced the way you see your community, culture, or identity? If you were speaking to someone unfamiliar with Atlanta, what would you want them to understand about your community?

    Living around Atlanta has influenced me into seeing my community as more diverse and connected. Atlanta has many different cultures, backgrounds, and types of people, which has helped me understand and appreciate the differences between people.     In class Wednesday, we went in depth on breaking down a speech; looking at rhetorical appeal, rhetorical situation, and rhetorical choices. We talked about how rhetorical choice applies to specific situations, and how certain things are better to say than others depending on the audience. This helped me understand that effective communication is not just about what you say, but also how and why you say it. I can use this when analyzing speeches and when making my own arguments because I will be more aware of my audience and the choices I make.

August 24th Prompt: Describe something you will never fully understand.

       Something I will never understand is how time seems to move faster when I get older. I know time itself doesn't change, but it still feels like it moves faster as you get older. It is weird how years can pass without me realizing it.      In class, we learned how to break down prompts and identify exactly what the question is asking us to do. We practiced turning the prompt into a clear claim that directly answers the question.      This helped me understand how breaking down a prompt first can make it easier to develop a strong response.
