August 10: As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

As I grow older and face more and more new experiences, the topic that I think will be the most common subject of debate is the U.S. economy. The economy in the United States is one of the most talked about things in our society everyday; whether it's spoken about among close friends, political leaders, or on the news and TV.  The economy is a major topic of debate when talking about anything with a price, making it a more and more common topic in our consumer society. As I grow older there will only be more and more things that people will have to pay for, and I will have to start making more purchasing decisions myself. This leads me to believe that the economy will be the most debated topic in the future.

In class, we learned the difference between an argument and an opinion. An argument is an opinion supported by evidence and opinion is just what someone beleives about a subject.

I learned that having an opinion does not necessarily mean you have a strong argument. To make an argument more convincing, I need to support my ideas with reasons and evidence instead of just stating what I believe.

August 11 Think of a time when you tried to persuade someone to agree with you, change their mind, or do something you wanted. What were you trying to persuade them to do or believe? How did you use ethos, pathos, or logos to persuade them? Which appeal was most effective and why?

August 17th Prompt: Describe a time you felt completely lost.
